The Norwegian Prestandard SN-EN 1998-4:2025 represents a second-generation Eurocode. Prestandards (SN-EN) for second-generation Eurocodes are published to provide the industry with an opportunity to familiarize itself with the content. These prestandards do not replace the first-generation Eurocodes.

In Norway, all second-generation Eurocodes will be published collectively as Norwegian Standards (NS-EN) along with corresponding national annexes. All first-generation Eurocodes with national annexes will remain valid Norwegian standards until then and will be withdrawn simultaneously with the publication of the second-generation Eurocodes.
Abstract
EN 1998-4 is applicable to the seismic design of on-ground and elevated silos, on-ground, elevated and underground tanks, above-ground and buried pipeline systems, towers, masts and chimneys and ancillary elements attached to the aforementioned structures or in industrial facilities.
